Thame Choral Society

Thame Choral Society Homepage

Thame Choral Society was formed in 1961 by William (Bill) Gilbert, then in charge of music at Lord Williams’s School in Thame.

David Hayes took over the conductorship of Thame Choral Society in 1986. During his term the society  performed a comprehensive list of works, from Pergolesi, Bach and Vivaldi, through the range of classical and romantic composers to modern works by Britten and Poulenc. Having spent 21 years at the helm David decided to stand down after the Christmas concert in 2007. He hasn’t left us, however, as he now sings in the bass section.

Our present conductor is Colin Spinks. He is Director of Music at St Mary-le-Strand and  organist and Director of Music at St Dunstan-in-the-West.

We perform two major concerts each year and have a series of summer workshops. We have also held weekend workshops for singers from all over the South East of England.

We always have professional soloists and orchestral players for our concerts, helping us to maintain a high standard of performance.

We manage to combine all the best aspects of a small choir. We are friendly and informal, but committed to the enjoyment of music. Because we are small, we are very flexible and can perform smaller works ourselves, whilst joining with other choral societies to perform the larger choral works. The Society has a membership of  35.

We always welcome both new and former singers to join us.
